The STS is responsible for the training of respiratory registrars in Scotland. The 4 deaneries in Scotland – Based in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, and Glasgow – currently support around 40-50 respiratory registrars in training; the geographical spread provides unique challenges in delivering high quality training to all trainees. Although some training is carried out locally by each deanery, it was decided in 2009 to co-ordinate registrar training nationally, so ensure all core curriculum outcomes were met. This system continues into the new decade.
